| I need your clothes, your boots, and your exoskeleton |

It has begun:
Japan's CYBERDYNE, Inc. is hoping to change that with a sleek, white exoskeleton now in the works that it says can augment the body's own strength or do the work of ailing (or missing) limbs.

The company is confident enough in its new technology to have started construction on a new lab expected to mass-produce up to 500 robotic power suits (think Star Wars storm trooper without the helmet) annually, beginning in October, according to Japan's Kyodo News Web site. A company named Cyberdyne producing a robot suit called "HAL".
What could possibly go wrong? |

Who the hell sees Terminator and goes 'I know, let's call our robotics company Cyberdyne!' Weirdos.
My thoughts exactly... doing a thing like that for a US company would be suicide.
This will end well!
(I like the glowy touches on the joints, though.)
Clearly, an excellent name for a company in that line of work. Designed to mess with future archaeologists who will find the actual company, suits, and movies and try to dilligently piece it all together.
I hope they plan to market a range of colours. No self-respecting potential evil-overlord could remain embittered and hell-bent on revenge on the world who lost him his limb in a white suit.
i seriously want one, but looking like a storm trooper might not be so great.... black maybe? :) also, i wonder if you could manage to do partial suits without interfering with structural mechanics--ie just legs or a leg and an arm, etc. i think the central unit at the back is what allows hip flexion and extension, but maybe that could be braced with a strap around the upper torso if the arm parts were taken off. do you think cyberdyne wants a consultant? :)

Looking like a Stormtrooper is totally rock-star. Trust me.
*paging Sarah Connor...Sarah Connor, you have a date with destiny at the front desk...
that looks more like the Apple version of a Terminator. where's the iPod dock?
I was just thinking that myself!
Think of the potential: iRobot, or iTrooper... or maybe just iRony, given that the company's named CYBERDYNE, after all.

Thankee. :)
If they end up partnering with, utilizing the services of, or otherwise relating themselves to any of these, I won't know whether to laugh my ass off or start stockpiling heavy artillery and explosives. Possibly both.
Looks a tad like a precursor to Karin Aoi's armor in DNA2.
What I want to know: when will they develop ones where they protect knockers in hard plastic like they do in the sci-fi movies?
It looks like something the Tron Guy would wear.. | |
